FC Barcelona lost their first points in this La Liga season as they fell to a defeat to Osasuna at El Sadar. Flick had put in a heavily rotated side for this difficult match, because of the high number of minutes that his more important starters have been accumulating, but this decision ultimately came to haunt the Blaugranes.
Most of the bench players who were started on the night were unable to put in an impressive shift. Pau Victor scored one of the goals, but his performance still left a lot to be desired. Similarly, Sergi Dominguez and Gerard Martin also had a rather forgettable night.
Another player who performed well below his expected standards was Ferran Torres. The Spaniard lost possession multiple times in this game, and his positioning on the pitch also created problems for his teammates.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, Torres still took the pains of talking to the media after the defeat, and regretted that his team was not able to extend their winning streak in the league to 8 matches:
“We couldn’t get the 8 out of 8 that we wanted, we didn’t have our best possible match in a tough stadium, but in 48 hours we have another game, and now we have to focus on Young Boys and the Champions League.“
However, the 24-year-old Barcelona forward was not putting up any excuses for the team’s poor performance and wanted his team to be self-critical:
“There are no excuses, they were effective, and we need to be self-critical, learn from our mistakes, and turn things around. In the second half, we showed more personality, but it wasn’t enough to turn the game around.”
This was not a night to remember for Torres or the rest of the team. Hopefully, he will be able to get back to his best and put in a better performance in the upcoming match against Young Boys, and help his team get back to winning ways.
