The September international break has come at an unfortunate time for FC Barcelona as they were in a good vein of form at this starting phase of the season. The Catalans have four wins in four matches in La Liga up to now, and have clearly been the best team in Spain in these first few matches.
But several Barcelona players will be away from the club for the coming few days, as they have been called up by their international teams. As already reported, up to ten Blaugrana players have been named in their respective national team squads.
On the other hand, up to 14 Barcelona players have not been called up for this international break. SPORT has provided a brief overview of which Barcelona players have not been called-up, and provided the reasons for their lack of a call-up.
1. Raphinha
The Barcelona forward is a regular feature for his Brazilian national side, but he has not been named in the squad list for these matches as he is suspended for his upcoming international game after accumulating suspensions against Peru and Argentina.
2. Ronald Araujo
The Uruguayan suffered an injury while representing his national side in the 2024 Copa America, and had to undergo surgery to recover from this issue. He is expected to remain on the sidelines for the next four months.
3. Andreas Christensen
The Dane is also a regular for his national team, but this time he will be unable to represent his country because of his left Achilles tendinopathy.
4. Gavi
It is almost a year since Gavi tore his ACL while playing for Spain. He also had to undergo surgery to recover from this issue and still remains unavailable for selection.
5. Frenkie de Jong
The Dutchman’s sprained ankle is still causing him problems, and he might also have to undergo surgery to recover from this issue.
6. Ansu Fati
The Spaniard is also suffering from an injury to his right foot, but it is arguable whether he had been called-up by Luis de la Fuente even if he was available.
7. Marc Bernal
Bernal recently tore his ACL in the match against Rayo Vallecano and is expected to remain unable to play for the rest of this season.
8. Inaki Pena
The goalkeeper has never been called up for the senior Spain side, and his last international call-up came in 2020, with the U-21 team.
9. Alejandro Balde
The fullback has returned to availability after missing almost the entire last season. This is the first international break since his return to availability, and Luis de la Fuente has not named him on his list.
10. Inigo Martinez
The Spaniard has been playing at a very high level for Barcelona this season, but he has not been named in the Spain squad for the third consecutive time now.
11. Eric Garcia
He won the Olympic gold medal with Spain but has not been called up for the senior Spain side. His last senior international call-up came during the 2022 World Cup.
12. Pablo Torre
Torre is yet to receive a senior international call-up but was named four times straight for the U-21 squad.
13. Marc Casado
The midfielder has not received a senior international call-up yet, and the last time he got into Spain’s list was in 2020 with the U-17 team.
14. Pau Victor
The striker has never been named in any international team up to now.
