With the summer transfer window coming to a close not too long from now, Barcelona have to accept certain realities for what they are and how some of their most sought-after priority targets may not now be the attainable attractions that they once were at some other point during the summer.
While certain arrivals can be advanced upon and ensured that they take place as has been planned, referring to the case of Portuguese fullback Joao Cancelo, there are those that can no longer be considered feasible arrivals, and expectations of them arriving have been completely erased.
Among those is another one of Manchester City’s most prized possessions and coincidentally also one of Portugal’s most treasured stars, Bernardo Silva.
As the player has now officially signed a new contract extension with Manchester City that will keep him with the Citizens until 2026, completely erasing all hopes for a transfer to FC Barcelona, an unfortunate scenario for the Catalans that has been foreshadowed by several sources over the last week or so.
While the Catalan club does continue to work on various measures and methods that would allow them to generate additional funds as well as create more space within the salary margin, it appears that yet another summer window will pass by without Barcelona and Bernardo Silva crossing each other.
However, with the case of the Manchester City midfielder now a complete impossibility for Barcelona to even consider, the Catalan club would consider other alternatives and ensure they work within their financial limitations to improve the club as best as possible.
The case of Joao Cancelo in particular is one that is quite advanced and expected to be one negotiation with Manchester City that does indeed come to fruition.
