Despite managing to win a tough encounter against Rayo Vallecano, Barcelona do not return from Vallecas full of joy. Beyond just the fact that the poor officiating was a frustrating headache of its own, La Blaugrana also suffered when one of their best players got injured. For Barcelona, the injury to Marc Bernal in that game comes as a massive loss of its own.

However, right after the game, there was a lot of speculation in regards to what exactly would be the type of injury that the player had suffered. Hansi Flick’s own words were hinting towards quite the morbid possibility, and many were hoping that it would be nothing of the sort.

Now, however, there is no more speculation to be had as FC Barcelona have officially confirmed what exactly is the type of injury that the player has sustained. Following thorough tests and medical examinations, Barça have revealed that the worst fears in regards to the player’s injury were more than valid.

The official medical report says the following, confirming an injury to the player’s ACL and his Meniscus as well:

“Tests carried out on Wednesday have shown that the player Marc Bernal has a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and an associated injury to the lateral meniscus.”

With this update, it is safe to assume that the player’s entire season could now be in jeopardy. Typically, injuries to the ACL and the meniscus can require close to a full year to ensure that an athlete’s body is fully repaired and able to participate at the highest level of the sport again.

The most recent example would be the injury to Gavi, as the Barcelona Golden Boy is still in recovery despite having been injured in November of last year. While his return now seems imminent, it would appear that Marc Bernal’s tough journey to make a full recovery starts today.
