Injuries have been a sore subject for FC Barcelona in recent years and for good reason. They have led to the club having a very depleted squad at some very crucial stages of various seasons, and have almost always cost the team. With Hansi Flick now at Barcelona, however, the club had reason to believe it could improve.
Yet, it seems that even a coach who focuses on physical fitness can not solve every single injury problem. Andreas Christensen has already been sidelined for a few months at least, and while his unavailability helps the club in registering Dani Olmo, any injury is a bad sign.
Now, beyond just Christensen, another defender has been injured ahead of the upcoming clash against Rayo Vallecano. According to an official FC Barcelona medical report, 23-year-old Spanish defender Eric Garcia has now also been sidelined due to a foot injury.
Specifically, the player from La Masia has plantar fasciitis in his right foot and the club has said that his evolution will determine his return to training without giving a proper timeframe as to when he is expected to return from the injury and the subsequent recovery.
Typically, injuries like this can vary in terms of severity and that tends to determine how long a player can be expected to stay on the sidelines. A rough estimate would suggest anywhere between a couple of weeks to a couple of months, but more information will likely come out soon enough.
This means that another defensive Barcelona player will be unavailable for selection in the upcoming games. Moreover, with Garcia linked to a potential move to Catalan side Girona this summer, it remains to be seen what happens to that potential operation. Even the case of Jonathan Tah, who has been linked to the club this summer, could end up being impacted by this new development.
