FC Barcelona seem to be hit by roadblocks after roadblocks whenever they seem to be gaining momentum. The Catalan giants finally possessed a squad of significant depth and quality this season. However, an unfortunate turn of events has now jeopardized even that outstanding depth.

However, it seems that FC Barcelona are now set to be dealt another major blow. According to the official statement by the Spanish National team, Alejandro Balde and Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams will leave the Spanish National Team camp. Due to their unique discomforts and injuries, the stars will return to their respective clubs immediately.
While there are still details pending about Balde’s injury, the only information available at the moment is that he is experiencing ‘discomfort in the adductors.’ The duration of his absence from play and the severity of the injury remain unknown as of now.
Further tests are to be conducted in Barcelona and more information is expected to come out soon. The 19-year-old fullback is one of the mainstays of Xavi’s Barcelona and his loss is a major blow. Fans and coaches alike of La Blaugrana will have their fingers crossed hoping to hear some good news regarding whatever problem it is that Balde is currently facing.
Balde is another one of the players that does not exactly have a lot of quality depth behind him. Similar to Oriol Romeu in the pivot position, his absence is felt when others have to adapt. Marcos Alonso, albeit a natural left-back, is well past his prime and is currently more of a liability on the field than an asset.
Another option that could possibly replace Balde is that of Portuguese star Joao Cancelo. The 29-year-old fullback possesses great technical ability and offensive awareness as well as positioning. Given that he has previously played as a left-back throughout his career at various points, the adaption process for him is expected to not take too long.
