FC Barcelona may have come away with a nail-biting 4-3 victory over Villarreal at the Estadio De La Ceramica only recently, but their objectives for the season are far from over and the Catalan giants will need all the additional help that they can manage.
In the game against the Yellow Submarine itself, a huge credit of the victory goes to various Barcelona youngsters who played their part in the win for the Catalan outfit. Stars such as Gavi, Lamine Yamal, and Fermin Lopez were all a part of the victory in some quantity or the other.
However, it seems FC Barcelona believe that further reinforcements should be ready to represent the side if necessary during the season and thus a particular 16-year-old defender finds himself to be the chosen one as a potential candidate to represent Xavi’s side at some point in whatever capacity his contributions are required.
FC Barcelona have officially registered 16-year-old La Masia defender Pau Cubarsi in the records of La Liga. He now joins the likes of other youngsters such as Lamine Yamal, Astralaga, Kochen, Marc Casado, and Fermin Lopez as registered players with the Barcelona first team.
Heavily praised by his seniors and coaches in the past as well, the 16-year-old has been associated as the most prominent defensive prodigy within the academy. Akin to Lamine Yamal’s progress as a forward who has a projection well beyond that of those around him, the case of Cubarsi is not much different in comparison to other defenders his age as it is.
Possessing a dominant physical aspect to his game, alongside great speed, technical skill, and awareness, as well as understanding the absolutes of defending already at such a young age, the player is being primed to be one of the best assets Xavi Hernandez and Barcelona in the future will have at their disposal to rely upon.
The 16-year-old has also represented the Spanish National team at the Under-15, Under-16, and even Under-17 levels, showcasing his merit goes beyond just the borders of FC Barcelona.
His registration will also allow FC Barcelona to have an additional central defender to rely upon if needed at any point, with the right-footed defender being at ease on either of the two central defensive slots.
