FC Barcelona prepare themselves at the Montjuic Stadium hoping to redeem themselves. With this game against Deportivo Alaves being their final shot at leaving a good impression before the international break, there are high expectations of both Xavi and his Barcelona side.
As such, it comes as no surprise that the Barcelona coach has opted to field a strong starting XI. With Barcelona currently behind both Real Madrid and Girona, the Catalan giants will want to reduce that gap as soon as possible.
Here is the official starting XI released by FC Barcelona. With Frenkie De Jong and Gavi both unavailable, certain positions already seemed predetermined to be taken by specific players even before the official starting XI came out.
Goalkeeper
In goal, as has always been the case this season, Marc Andre Ter Stegen starts. The German International remains one of the bright spots for Barcelona even in their worst performances. His saves have been crucial thus far, but Barcelona will be hoping he remains consistent with them.
Defense
The defense is covered by French defender Jules Kounde and Spanish defender Inigo Martinez as the two center-backs. Their passing range should help out Barcelona build out more fluidly from the back.
The fullback positions are covered by Portuguese star Joao Cancelo and Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo on the left and right flanks respectively.
Midfield
As the primary pivot, Ilkay Gundogan continued in the starting XI hoping to lead his side to a good victory. The interior positions are covered by Pedri, who makes his first start for Barcelona since recovering from his recent injury, and Fermin Lopez, who will be hoping to add both balance and dynamism to the team.
Forwards
Lastly, the frontline consists of three forwards up top. Robert Lewandowski continues to start for Barcelona despite his rocky recent displays. His wings are covered by Portuguese star Joao Felix and Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal as they both look to provide headaches to the Alaves defense.
