FC Barcelona work their way towards a game of great importance in San Sebastián. The Catalan giants take a trip away from home to take on the mighty Real Sociedad. Matchday twelve awaits Barcelona, as they look to take away all three points.

Currently sitting fourth and fifth respectively in La Liga, Barcelona and Real Sociedad both have a point to prove. Given the high expectations, the game is set to be an enticing encounter. As such, Xavi has decided to field a strong lineup to take on the challenge up ahead.

With kickoff not too far away, FC Barcelona have released their official starting XI.

Goalkeeper

In goal, the ever-important captain for the team Marc Andre Ter Stegen starts. The German international has struggled in terms of clean sheets this season, but he will be hoping that he can turn that bad fortune around against Real Sociedad.

Defense

The defense is supported by two great fullbacks, Alejandro Balde and Ronald Araujo. The Spaniard occupies the left flank of the defense while the Uruguayan star occupies the right-back position. Barcelona will remain assured with their presence covering the rather vulnerable flanks of theirs at times.

Centrally, a pairing of Jules Kounde and Inigo Martinez will try to protect Ter Stegen’s goal. The two in-form center-backs will hope to ensure that Barcelona remain one step ahead of their opponents at all time throughout the game.

Midfield

The midfield sees Ilkay Gundogan return as the pivot for Barcelona. His interiors up ahead are Gavi and Fermin Lopez. Both the youngsters are currently enjoying a great season at FC Barcelona and will want to retain their importance within the starting XI for Xavi.

With Pedri also on the bench for this game, the midfielders will want to showcase their best qualities in order to be convincing enough for the Barcelona coach.

Forwards

Lastly, the frontline is occupied by three forwards. Robert Lewandowski makes his first start for Barcelona since his injury that had kept him out for quite some time. His wings on either side are occupied by Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix.

The attackers will all be hoping to contribute some goals this time around and simultaneously improving their respective tallies. All healthy and ready to start, Xavi will want his attackers to be at their absolute best against Sociedad.
