The transfer saga concerning FC Barcelona and 26-year-old French winger Ousmane Dembele was one that was stalled since quite a while due to several disputes between the club and the player’s representatives.
A transfer that has arguably rocked FC Barcelona to its core given its unexpected occurrence and the urgency with which the Catalan club now continues to look for an alternative in order to provide Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez with a more stable squad to work it.
Attached with the Barcelona coach as his most reliable winger, the French forward now finally concludes time as a Blaugrana player following a six-season stay at the Catalan club since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund in 2017.
Today, FC Barcelona have officially announced the 26-year-old French winger’s departure to Ligue 1 outfit Paris Saint-Germain in an official club statement that confirms the final transfer fee to be exactly €50.4 million.
Several disputes over the division of this fee between the Catalans and the player’s representatives have taken place over the last few weeks as the player’s side believes 50% of the transfer fee is entitled to them whereas Barcelona argue that they did not fulfill the criteria for which that entitlement would be eligible.
As it stands, the winger is on his way to play for the Parisians and has reportedly signed a 5-year deal with the French club that would see the forward remain with PSG until 2028 at the very least.
Former Barcelona coach and current PSG manager Luis Enrique also hinted at Dembele’s imminent arrival at the French club not too long ago, stating that he was already “99%” a PSG player and only a few details were yet to be sorted for the deal to be completed.
With this departure now confirmed, FC Barcelona will work with newfound urgency and motivation to find the players they need to bring in to allow Xavi Hernandez to have his list of requests completed as Barcelona head into the new 2023/2024 season up ahead.
