Official: Lamine Yamal renews contract with Barcelona until 2026

To form the glorious FC Barcelona that is known and loved today, many stars began their journeys at a young age. For the Catalan giants, their renowned La Masia youth academy was a fundamental part of what made Barca ‘Mes Que Un Club’.

Relying on their self-developed youngsters and honing their abilities to as much as their possible excellence, Barcelona managed to create a team unlike any other in history.

However, despite the fact that in recent years it seemed that the Catalan giants had lost their touch in regards to their roots, it now appears that they may be returning to them after all.

Officially announced now by FC Barcelona themselves, 16-year-old wonderkid Lamine Yamal has renewed with La Blaugrana. Set to now don the Blaugrana colours until June of 2026, extending his previous contract by two years.

Moreover, the new contract in place has a €1 billion release clause attached to it, something quite common for Barcelona at this point when it comes to their most talented young stars. In the case of Yamal, the teenager is a talent unlike Barca or even European football, has seen in recent years.

While Barcelona have not mentioned this officially, there remain reports that suggest that the youngster will end up signing an even longer extension once he reaches the age of eligibility. For now, due to his young age, he is only able to sign on until 2026 with Barca.

A right-winger with a ferocious ability to change his trajectory and balance, his unsettling abilities often leave defenders puzzled. At only 16, he has managed to become one of the most pulsating players within the Barcelona first team and has also managed to take the Spanish national team scene by storm.

Becoming the youngest-ever debutant and goalscorer in Spanish national team history, he has impressively managed to also become Barca’s youngest-ever starter this season. With Yamal just getting started, this La Masia prodigy has mountains of potential yet to climb and impress the world of football with going forward.
