It was not only Jules Kounde who got injured in the match between FC Barcelona and Granada, as Lamine Yamal also had to leave the pitch in the second half with discomfort.
While his injury was assessed not to be too serious, the youngster still needed some rest to recover from this and get back to 100% fitness for the upcoming matches. With the international break starting after the Granada match, Yamal’s injury was not as bad news for Barcelona as it was for Spain.
Yamal returns to Barcelona
The Spanish football federation ultimately took Yamal to the national team camp, especially as the youngster’s future is still not certain with Spain.
However, according to SPORT, Lamine Yamal will return to FC Barcelona this Tuesday, as the RFEF medical services have completed tests on the youngster and gotten an assessment of the youngster’s injury.
Thus, the national team has prioritized the long-term health of the player and, in accordance with the wishes of FC Barcelona, has exempted Yamal from participating in the matches against Scotland and Norway as they look to qualify for EURO 2024.
Yamal yet to complete four appearances with Spain
Lamine Yamal is yet to complete his four appearances with Spain, a milestone which will render him unselectable for his other eligible side, Morocco. However, the Spanish football federation has full confidence in the youngster and believes he is fully committed to Spain for the future.
The federation believes there is still plenty of time for Yamal to reach this milestone but hopes this can be reached as soon as the next international break in November, when Spain will be facing Cyprus and Georgia. However, his selection in that window will also be undertaken in consultation with Barcelona.
Meanwhile, for the current two matches, Spain will continue with its 24 players, and no replacement for Yamal will be called up. Bryan Zaragoza will play in Yamal’s stead, and one player will have to be discarded in each match as only 23 players can be registered for a match.
