Official: Sergino Dest leaves FC Barcelona to join PSV

Not every operation that FC Barcelona end up conducting this summer will be equally as positive for them. The Catalan club is looking for opportunities to part ways with certain players, and at times those opportunities arrive in less-than-ideal ways. However, Barcelona need to make space at the club, and it is thus important to consider them.

Keeping that in mind, Barcelona have officially made their first sale of the summer already. For several weeks, the likes of Clement Lenglet and Mikayil Faye have reportedly been connected to teams other than Barcelona. However, the sale that just took place happens to be that of a certain 23-year-old fullback.

As brought to light by the official FC Barcelona website, the Catalan club has agreed to sell American fullback Sergino Dest to Eredivisie side PSV. After spending a season on loan at the Dutch side, the fullback is now expected to join them permanently until 2028.

As for the key points of the transfer itself, it would appear that Barcelona are not going to be receiving any direct financial compensation for the sale of the player. Instead, La Blaugrana have managed to include a sell-on clause that would automatically give them rights to a percentage of any revenue generated in the future from the player’s sale.

The player is expected to take on the number ‘8’ shirt at PSV as his time at Barcelona comes to an end. Having originally joined the Catalan club back in 2020, the player went on to make 72 appearances for FC Barcelona, and during his two active seasons at the club, he managed to win the Copa Del Ray.

However, not too long after that, the player went away on loan to Italian side AC Milan. After a rather unsuccessful stint there, the player directly went on loan to PSV the very next season. Now, following the end of that loan, Barcelona and PSV have come to the agreement that the player will be sold and will play in the Dutch league next season as Barça aspires to return to the 1:1 rule.
