Much anticipation was felt in terms of the wait for FC Barcelona to ensure the continuity of key figures within this current team. Ranging from the players to key figures in management positions, the higher-ups had the task of ensuring that the Catalans retained their most important figures.

As such, with various reports leading up to this moment, FC Barcelona have finally managed to guarantee the continuity of their first team head coach, Xavi Hernandez, beyond the previously established expiration of his contract in year’s time in 2024.

According to the official statement of the club, FC Barcelona and Xavi Hernandez have reached an agreement to extend the contract duration of the Blaugrana manager until 2025, adding an additional year to his contract.

Having arrived in 2021, Xavi initially led a poorly performing Barcelona side from their 9th place standing all the way to a 2nd placed finish at the end of the 2021/22 season.

Following that initial season as his very first, Xavi then followed up and demonstrated his best capabilities in the subsequent 2022/23 season.

Winning the La Liga title as well as the Spanish Super Cup, both over El Clasico rivals Real Madrid, Xavi cemented his place as the man to trust with FC Barcelona.

Over the course of his managerial tenure at FC Barcelona, Xavi Hernandez has thus far coached Barcelona for 96 official games. From within these 96 matches, Xavi has won 60 times and currently holds a win percentage of 62.5% as Barca manager coupled with only 19 losses out of 96 games across this entire period.

Currently well into his third season as head coach of La Blaugrana, second in terms of a full season, Xavi’s Barcelona has thus far been unbeaten in both Spain and in European competitions.

Expected to perform well both domestically and in Europe as well, this new contract is evidence of the trust put in Xavi by the Barcelona board moving forward.

Barcelona next face Celta Vigo as their upcoming opponents in La Liga EA Sports for Matchday six in the 2023/24 campaign. Following the announcement of his renewal, it will be on Xavi’s shoulder to ensure that he can showcase that Barca made the right call to bet on him.
