There are only a few days left in this summer transfer window, and time is running out for Barcelona to further strengthen their team for this season. The Catalans want to bring some new players but are facing a lot of difficulties because of their finances.
In fact, the Blaugranes are still awaiting a return to the 1:1 rule, which will solve a lot of their problems as they can then spend as much money as they generate from sales on new signings.
If Barcelona returns to this status before the summer transfer window ends, the main priority of the Catalans would be to sign Rafael Leao from AC Milan, who is one of the dream signings for Joan Laporta.
However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will also look to strengthen their center-back position in case they return to the 1:1 rule. This is particularly the case as the Blaugranes are going to miss Andreas Christensen and Ronald Araujo for a long period of time as they are recovering from their respective injuries.
Furthermore, Eric Garcia’s future at the club is also not very certain. The Catalans do not want to sell him as his sale would weaken them even further in this area. They would agree to his sale only if the player himself asks for a move, and if they have already returned to the 1:1 rule, as then they can spend the full proceeds from his sale on a new signing.
It is still unknown whether Barcelona will be able to sign another defender this summer, but they still have some interesting players in their sight. One of the most popular in the club’s offices is the Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera, the 20-year-old center-back who has already played 50 games for the first team.
Jonathan Tah is another interesting option that the Blaugranes have on their list. He has already been offered to Barcelona by his agent, Pini Zahavi, but Leverkusen might not agree to a sale as they are playing in the Champions League this season and would not want to weaken their team. Mario Hermoso, whose Atletico Madrid contract has already expired, has also been offered to the Catalans.
Meanwhile, there are two defenders already at the club who can play at this position, but neither of them has the experience needed. The first one is the 17-year-old Andres Cuenca and the second is the 21-year-old Mamadou Mbacke.
