A lot of speculation has come into being during this summer transfer window for Barcelona. The Catalan giants had some very specific targets at the beginning, but a lot of transformation has occurred since. Despite that, Barcelona have still been unable to complete the signing of the one player they desired the most.

As per most reports, the one player that Barcelona desperately want to bring over to Catalonia this summer is Nico Williams. Simply the thought of signing him reportedly blew up the club’s entire planning. He became Barça’s obsession and one they did not want to miss out on.

Unfortunately, that desire has not amounted to an actual signing of the player. Instead, thus far, every movement in that operation has been cryptic and nothing decisive has come out. However, according to the latest update provided by SPORT, there is at least one thing that can be more or less guaranteed.

At some point during the summer, French club Paris Saint-Germain also entered the picture. Now, however, they are completely out of it as per the report. The same update suggests that the player does not even contemplate a move that would take him away from Spain at any cost.

Thus, with PSG out of the way, there are really only two options left for the young Spanish winger. The first option would be to stay at Athletic Club for yet another season and help them by keeping his ‘promise’ to them, or he could join Barcelona and be reunited with some of his closest friends from the Spanish National team at one of the world’s premiere clubs.

Apparently, the main thing still holding back this operation is the lack of guarantees provided by Barça. From the payment of the release clause to the player’s actual registration, there are a lot of things that still need to be promised. Both the player and his agent appeared willing to join, but Barcelona also needs to make progress from their end it seems.
