There are a lot of different things that FC Barcelona must address every year in order to maintain and improve the quality of their team. Signing players is one of those priorities, but it is hardly the only thing that the club must worry about. In fact, in most cases, the topic of renewals is even more important for Barcelona.

Managing to retain and extend the stay of their best players is considered to be a top priority for the Catalan club. Without the continuity of these star players, Barcelona would hardly be able to maintain the consistency that they wish to remain on the path of.

That is why, after having recently renewed Fermin Lopez until 2029, Barcelona are now focused on extending the stays of two of their most important young players who have contracts in place at the moment that will end up expiring in 2026.

Hence, as highlighted by SPORT, Barcelona, and Deco are now committed to ensuring the continuity of both Pedri and Gavi beyond the expiration of their contracts in 2026. As it stands, the initial hope is that both players can have their contracts extended until at least 2030.

Both players in question are considered to be key components of this Barcelona project in the present and especially for the future. Having won both the Golden Boy Award and the Kopa Trophy in 2021 and 2022, respectively, Pedri and Gavi are understandably two massively important players for the club and it explains why their renewals are such a big case.

In terms of negotiations, the agents of both players have been in contact with Barcelona previously. Pedri’s agent, Hector Peris, has already been informed by the club that they see the young midfielder as a leader of the team moving forward and that is already proven by the very fact that Pedri is one of the captains of FC Barcelona despite being only 21 years old.

Similarly, Gavi’s entourage is also aware of Barça’s intentions to renew his contract and keep him as a fundamental piece of this team for the years to come. The club did not make too many advances towards reaching this renewal objective previously due to the sensitive nature of the player’s injury, but they think now is the right time to make that move.

Both players are expected to be the next names in line to extend their contract with Barcelona now. They are more than happy with the club and their desire is to stay right here in Catalonia. As such, it is not expected that the negotiation process will be a troublesome one, and instead, all involved parties will hopefully be able to reach mutual agreements.
