Pedri’s stunner against Sevilla voted as Barca’s goal of the year

In a poll conducted on the official Barcelona website, Pedri’s touch and feint masterpiece against Sevilla in April was voted as the best Barcelona goal of the year 2022 by fans themselves.

Serving as both the deadlock breaker and match winner, the Canary Islander’s strike of genius proved to be exactly the sort of clinical attempt that allowed the Blaugrana to take home the entirety of the 3 points with them in front of their own fans at the Camp Nou.

Receiving a pass from Ousmane Dembele out from the right wing, Pedri set himself up to take a shot with his left foot from outside the 18-yard box, only to feint with his body and fake with his foot to cut to the right and set himself up for a more favorable shot with his stronger foot.

Yet to both the surprise of the players tasked with ensuring Pedri does not get to take that shot in that scenario alongside the fans themselves, it was to be yet another dummy by the previous Golden Boy award winner, who then glided past yet another defending player now on the ground to hit a strong, clean strike that rocketed into the bottom left corner, out of Yassine Bounou’s outstretched reach.

Around an estimated total of 18,742 people took part in the overall voting themselves, out of which approximately 5000 culers chose Pedri’s goal against Sevilla to be the outstanding finish of the season. Moreover, this very goal was also elected as La Liga’s goal of the 2021-2022 season as well, encompassing the entirety of goals having been scored in the Spanish First Division that season.

Apart from the top-voted goal, the second-highest-voted goal ended up being another one of Pedri’s strokes of genius as well, the goal he scored against Galatasaray to be precise.

Scored in the Europa League, and much like his goal against Sevilla, it was heavily praised around the globe by Barcelona fans and even those that are not so. Finally, in third place, it was Jordi Alba’s astounding volley against Atletico Madrid in February of 2022, which in turn completes the final podium following the voting period.
