FC Barcelona got a break from La Liga action this weekend as the international break is in place and most of their players are with their national teams. These players include the two latest arrivals at the club, Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo.
Both these players are with their Portugal national team camp, and both saw time on the pitch as Portugal thumped Luxembourg with a 9-0 victory last night. However, it was Felix who was the more notable of these two players.
Felix scores a great goal
Felix had a great outing in the match last night, which was topped with a great goal to make the scoreline 9-0. Joao Felix came in the 60th minute, when Portugal had already scored their first five goals, and scored his goal in the 88th minute.
This goal was special also because Felix has come to the international break without having played many minutes since the start of the season.
Martinez full of praise for Felix
As Mundo Deportivo reports, the Portugal coach, Roberto Martinez, was full of praise for the on-loan Barcelona player. After the match, the coach commented:
“Talent is permanent. We need talent and players who can make a difference. Joao Félix has talent and technical quality that is at a high level.”
The coach also went on to recognize the troubles that Felix has been facing in the last few weeks:
“Players are individuals, and people have their ups and downs. I believe that Joao now has a team to enjoy and be himself. But it was important to be with us because he is part of the team, and it was good preparation for October. Today we saw that Joao has an important place in the team.”
Thus, his national team coach has confidence in Felix that he will remain an important part of this Portugal team that is not short on talent in any way. Hopefully, Felix’s last goal with his national team will help him overcome the barren spell he has been facing for the last few months in club football, and kick-start his Barcelona career in better form.
