FC Barcelona took away three very important points against Real Sociedad at the Anoeta Stadium. The intense 1-0 victory allowed La Blaugrana to increase their points tally this season to 27. Many players even played their hearts out to ensure that the Catalan giants came away with those points.

However, while most of the team did struggle, certain players did so more than others. On one end of the spectrum, stars like Ronald Araujo and Ilkay Gundogan stepped up. They combined to produce some last-minute heroics to save Barça. On the other hand, Joao Felix was one of the many casualties of the night.

Portuguese woes

As highlighted by SPORT, the Portuguese star is beginning to lose his impact as a forward. Having fought hard to find his way to Barcelona, it seems that things are going from bad to worse. His current goalless streak is even being heralded as his worst period in Spain in terms of putting balls in the back of the net.

Despite having the entire faith of Xavi Hernandez, Felix has recently declined in terms of productivity. While it initially felt like the Barcelona coach had found the player’s best possible position and utilization, even that seems to now be wavering. However, the player himself is also frustrated by this ongoing dilemma.

Frustration in the Anoeta

In the game against Real Sociedad, Felix was quiet for much of the first half. However, he exploded in the final minutes of it and continued it into the second half. Yet, just as the game was seemingly opening up a bit, Felix was taken off. A tactical change by Xavi, it still left the Portuguese star visibly distraught.

Knowing that he returns to Atletico Madrid next season after his loan concludes, Felix will want to step up his game. Unwilling to head back to Madrid, Felix and Barcelona wish to continue their partnership. However, for that to happen, the 23-year-old will need to return to his best level.
