Almost all of the players that FC Barcelona brought in during the last summer transfer window are shining in their new club. This is particularly the case with the Portuguese fullback Joao Cancelo, who has significantly improved Barcelona’s offense from the right flank and has already contributed to several victories for the Catalan club.

The Portuguese international was key for Xavi once again in last night’s match against Sevilla. While he did not get on the scoresheet himself, the fullback played a great game and the fans voted him to be the team’s MVP for his performance.

Cancelo praises his teammates

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, Cancelo was one of the players who talked to the media after the match. He took this opportunity to praise the efforts of his new teammates but downplayed the importance of getting the MVP award for this match:

“I always try to do my best to help the team. From the starters to the substitutes, all players had a great match. It’s a completely deserved victory, and it feels good to be the leaders.”

FC Barcelona got an important victory against Sevilla, which is always a tricky opponent and one of the toughest sides in La Liga. Cancelo also talked about the significance of this victory for Barcelona:

“It was a hard-fought victory against a great team. They have outstanding players, and we deserved the win, just like against Mallorca. We are leaders, albeit temporarily.”

Keeping the clean sheet

Cancelo also talked about the importance of keeping a clean sheet, something the team has not been able to do in the last two matches:

“It’s something we have to work on together. Today, we managed to keep the goal empty. We played well, but we lacked goals in front of the net.”

Barcelona will be looking to keep another clean sheet in their next match as the Catalan team travels to Cancelo’s home country to face Porto in the Champions League. The fullback will be key for Barcelona in this match once again and, hopefully, can keep up the good form that he has shown since joining the club.
