Up until this point, FC Barcelona have primarily focused on making things right in La Liga and the Champions League. Spain’s First Division and UEFA’s Premiere competition are understandably top priorities for Barça. However, soon enough they will be joined by others.
Two more competitions that remain active tournaments for Barcelona to compete in are the Spanish Super Cup and Copa Del Ray. Both these competitions are seen as priority targets for Barcelona to achieve this season, given their improved squad depth.
Speaking of the Copa Del Ray, Barcelona will not have to wait much longer to find out about their opponents. As highlighted by SPORT, the Catalan giants will directly participate in the tournament’s Round of 32 courtesy of them playing in the Spanish Super Cup.
This would mean that the Catalan giants will skip the prior rounds altogether, but already have a few possible opponents lined up. As per the regulations of the tournament, Barcelona will not be facing off against certain sides in their initial game of the tournament.
The regulations state that they will be unable to face off against other First Division opponents, as well as those from the Segunda Division. This, in turn, leaves behind five opponents that are already possible rivals for Barcelona to face off against.
Castellon, Unionistas Salamanca, Malaga, and Lugo feature from the Primera RFEF. Barbastro, from the Segunda RFEF, is another possible upcoming opponent for Barcelona. Other teams that could potentially join this list include Melilla, Linares, Sestao River, Arandina, Orihuela, and Cayon.
The draw itself will take place on the 12th of December at Las Rozas, the headquarters of the Spanish Football Federation. The Round of 32 fixtures are then expected to take place as single-leg encounters between the 5th and 7th of January.
Barcelona enter this tournament as record champions of the Copa Del Ray, also known as the ‘King’s Cup’. The Catalan giants have won it an impressive 31 times.
In second, they are followed by Athletic Bilbao, who have won it 23 times. Arch-rivals Real Madrid, on the other hand, only have 20 victories to their name.
