Owing to financial constraints and the inability to escort players to the exit door, Barcelona are facing problems with their recruitment strategy. The Catalans are obliged to sell players before they can actively make attempts in the summer transfer window.
One of the names attracting considerable interest is Frenkie de Jong. The Dutchman is an incredibly diverse midfielder, with a lot of clubs from Europe endeavoring for his signature. As a consequence, Barcelona have previously studied the possibility of selling their hot commodity in order to free funds that would allow them to make movements in the market.
However, the Blaugranes value Frenkie very highly and consider his sale a last resort. Moreover, the player himself has reiterated that he would like to continue at the Catalan club.
Taking the player’s importance to the club into consideration as well as Xavi’s desire to see him continue, SPORT has come out to claim that a hypothetical departure of Frank Kessie to Saudi Arabia would completely eliminate the need to sell the Dutchman.
Naturally, given the current FC Barcelona environment, if an outrageous offer were to come in, it is not ruled out that the issue would be resurrected again, and the Dutch maestro would be persuaded to accept.
Even so, as long as Kessie is moved on, there would be no need to sell their star asset. While the Ivorian has shown insistence to continue fighting for a place at the club too, he has suitors, particularly from Saudi Arabia. The Middle Eastern club could free Barcelona from his wages. Furthermore, his price tag could surely fetch a decent amount.
The Ivorian is reportedly garnering interest from Al Ahli, and it would be a huge relief for Barcelona’s finances if an offer for €30 million were to come in. Additionally, no longer will the Barcelona hierarchy have to worry about selling Frenkie.
Barcelona has already received offers for Torres, Fati, Raphinha, Roberto, apart Kessie, if the press is to be believed. So why de Jong?
