Franck Kessie arrived in Barcelona as a free agent from Italian giants AC Milan in the summer transfer window of 2022. The Ivorian midfielder has failed to establish himself as a regular starter for the Blaugrana outfit and a move away from Camp Nou is on the cards since this January.
According to reports from SPORT, Spurs manager Antonio Conte is a keen admirer of Franck Kessie. The North London outfit have had an alarming dip in form and even though they are in the top four in the English Premier League, Conte sees the Blaugrana midfielder as a necessary addition to bolster his squad next season.
However, Xavi has the last say on Kessie’s transfer and it’s only the manager’s decision to part with the midfielder come this summer that would see him move away from Spotify Camp Nou. Xavi currently has Busquets, Frenkie, Pedri, and Gavi as the midfielders he can rely on, and thus letting the 26-year-old playmaker leave would be dependent on Barcelona acquiring a quality midfielder in the summer.
Kessie has seen more game time recently, especially with the injury of Pedri. Hence Xavi’s need to have a midfielder of Kessie’s qualities to reinforce his middle pack in times of injuries and fatigue due to accumulated fixtures would see the Spanish manager stall the operation of selling the Ivorian.
Barcelona’s financial woes and their need to raise funds to sign a creative midfielder would however force the Catalan club to sell the former AC Milan man if a tempting offer is submitted, something Tottenham and other clubs interested in the Ivorian are well aware of.
Kessie’s future remains a puzzle to be solved in the summer but as for now the midfielder would be keen to help the Blaugrana to their first La Liga title since 2019 and probably this year’s edition of the Copa del Rey.
