The pre-season camp for FC Barcelona is underway, and the futures of a number of players associated with the Catalan club hinges on this camp. One such player who would be significantly impacted by this pre-season is the youngster Lamine Yamal.

According to SPORT, Yamal was one of the players who started the training with the first team. This experience will have great implications for the youngster, as it will determine the course of his future at the club after a truly promising start to his career at La Masia.

Yamal was called up to the first team in the later parts of the last season. However, his incorporation into the FC Barcelona squad was interrupted as he was called up for the U-17 European Championship with the Spanish national team.

The player shone in this tournament held in Hungary but had to miss the last few league games, where he might have gotten more chances in the first team as Barcelona had already been confirmed as champions a few matchdays before the official end of the league.

Still, Spanish football authorities did not call up the players for the U-19 and U-21 tournaments, which would have further delayed his inclusion in the pre-season camp.

During this Pre-season, Yamal is aiming to find a role with the team that would allow him to explode in the coming seasons. The player knows that Xavi selects his players mainly on sporting merit and not on age or experience, as has been apparent in the cases of Alejandro Balde.

Thus, Yamal would use this opportunity to impress Xavi and his coaching staff, in order to gain a significant responsibility in the squad. The club also believes in the player, and sees him as a potential star in the making.

However, his future course will be determined by his performances in the pre-season. While the player would be able to sign a professional contract this Thursday when he is 16 years old, but the club still plans to keep him registered with the youth team, and gradually incorporate him into the first team.
