FC Barcelona is no strangers to the possibility of unforeseen and unexpected transfers in the ever-evolving world of football and are accustomed to the various sporting and economic dilemmas that are often created as a result of such transfers.
Even recently, the agreed transfer of 26-year-old French winger Ousmane Dembele to Ligue 1 outfit Paris Saint-Germain was no different, as Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez was thought to have been counting on the services of the Frenchman heading into the 2023/2024 season as Barcelona looked to build on their impressive previous campaign.
However, the transfer has been shaping up as it is and despite the delays that are taking place, the Barcelona winger is expected to part ways with the club this summer. Interestingly enough though, there may be another who follows his path.
In a recent report by Spanish outlet Diario AS, it is being offered that 20-year-old Blaugrana winger Ansu Fati could possibly be the next one to leave the club as, ironically enough, it is PSG yet again who wish to take the youngster away from the Catalan club.
The report suggests that the new PSG manager and former Barcelona head coach is one of the leading voices behind the arrival of Ansu Fati to PSG given how well the manager had become acquainted and impressed with him while he represented the Spanish National team.
Barcelona, on the other hand, are looking at this transfer as a completely beneficial operation in terms of its economic benefits to a currently restricted club in its entirety.
Hailing from La Masia as a Barcelona academy product, the sale of the player would generate only net profit as there is no prior transfer fee associated with his arrival at the club and this could help balance the books to a great extent while also allowing enough of a space within the financial markings to register the remainder of the squad as well.
The player is seen as more of a substitute at Barcelona rather than a starter, as per the perception of PSG according to the report, and thus even with the departure of Dembele, the 20-year-old may not get regular minutes given Xavi’s propensity to use a four-man midfield system that limits the inclusion of pure wingers in his Barcelona side.
However, it simultaneously also remains true that the player has been heavily reluctant to leave his Catalan home as even before whenever Barcelona or his agent, Jorge Mendes, have called upon a possible departure the player’s reply has been an absolute rejection to the idea.
It remains to be seen what becomes of this possible operation and the interest PSG seems to have in the 20-year-old Barcelona youngster despite recent reports suggesting the club had decided to retain his services, but it is safe to say that the number 10 of the Catalan giants seems to be a hot property among the European elites.
