PSG coach rates 19-year-old Barcelona midfielder very highly, move unlikely due to three reasons

Former Barcelona coach Luis Enrique

FC Barcelona have been the house of some of the best midfielders in the history of competitive football.

The club’s legendary Pep Guardiola team was based primarily on the excellence of midfielders like Xavi, Iniesta, and Busquets, and Xavi’s current team is also bestowed with a wealth of highly competent midfielders.

Thus, breaking into FC Barcelona’s midfield is not an easy task, especially for a player who lacks in experience and development that comes with playing years in top competitive football.

However, Gavi is one player who was able to break into the club’s starting spots for a midfield position, despite his youth and lack of experience.

What the player lacks in experience, he makes up with his tenacity, aggressiveness, passion, and technique. As a result, Xavi has been counting on the midfielder for the last two seasons, who has also been recognized by the world of football, as he was the Golden Boy award winner in 2022.

With his performances for Barcelona and the recognition he has received the world over, several top European clubs are interested in the midfielder.

According to RMC Sport, one such interested club is PSG, whose new head coach, the former Barcelona gaffer Luis Enrique, rates the midfielder very highly.

The French club has already probed his availability from Barcelona. However, Gavi’s move to PSG is not going to happen, and the interest from PSG is expected to be nipped in the bud for three reasons.

These reasons include the high price that Barcelona will demand for the player, the timing of the move with Xavi’s squad almost having taken its final shape, and the tense relations that prevail between Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain.

While it is true that Barcelona are in a dire financial situation, and any source of income would be welcome by the club, selling a player like Gavi is very unlikely to be considered by the club.

He is one of the favorite players of Barcelona fans, and Xavi himself sees him as a cornerstone of the new Barcelona project.
