The French club Paris Saint Germain and FC Barcelona have quite a rocky relationship. Despite not being direct rivals in La Liga, the two clubs have frequently come face to face in the UEFA Champions League in the past few years, with both of them getting their share of glory and humiliation.
However, the area where the two clubs have contested most vigorously has been the transfer market, as they have tried to seduce one another’s players to join their own teams.
PSG have the upper hand in this regard up to now, mainly because of their financial muscle, as they were successful in attracting two key Barcelona players over the years, Neymar and Ousmane Dembele.
Recently, the French side has reportedly been trying to attract the latest superstar of the Blaugrana team, Lamine Yamal. Laporta himself confirmed such an activity from the Parisians some months ago.
Now, only yesterday, one of Laporta’s advisors, Enric Masip, once again claimed in an interview that PSG had made a €200 million offer for Yamal that was rejected by Barcelona.
According to SPORT, these claims have not sat too well with the Parisians and they have categorically denied having made any such offer for the Spanish star. PSG claim they know that Yamal will not leave Barcelona, and thus they have not taken any steps to sign the €150 million-rated winger.
However, the French side does admit that their Sporting Director, Luis Campos, had inquired about the player from his agent Jorge Mendes, with whom the Parisians enjoy good relations. However, the Qatar-owned entity claims that such an inquiry is perfectly normal, and is made for hundreds of players.
But while their pursuit of Yamal remains subject to doubt, it is clear that PSG had been studying their options to replace Kylian Mbappe in their squad when his transfer to Real Madrid was confirmed.
Although they were linked with the Napoli duo of Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, they were not thinking of making a huge investment in the market last summer.
