FC Barcelona and Real Madrid have spearheaded a project called the ‘European Super League’ for some time now, and despite the project only consisting of the two El Clasico rivals at the moment, it previously had other clubs also backing the operation.

However, a recent occasion saw Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaifi take a direct dig at the European Super League after having been re-elected this Thursday as the President of the ECA (Association of European Clubs).

According to Spanish outlet SPORT, the PSG head took the opportunity to make a comment on the Super League as he has been known to do so before.

“I call it the ‘No Super League’. No one wants to do it. We don’t care what they do. They are out. It used to be three teams, now it’s two…”

His direct words come as an attack on the Super League project being led by Joan Laporta and Florentino Perez, presidents of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively, and it could possibly even be seen as a direct insult to both sides.

The relationship that PSG currently maintains with both Barcelona and Madrid is tense, and the comments made by Nasser Al-Khelaifi will not help those already strained relationships.

Moreover, he also believes that the Super League almost feels destined to fail, according to him:

“I don’t think there’s any danger. We focus on Europe and our clubs. We have the best and most important competitions, the best players. It’s not for me to judge what happens outside of Europe. We focus on ourselves.”

For now, the only two participants left in the European Super League are Real Madrid and Barcelona, who were recently left behind by Italian club Juventus and other English clubs, with the latter being the very first to leave behind the project.
