It is no secret that FC Barcelona are currently at odds with several entities and clubs, whether due to historical reasons or political differences between them. One such side is French club Paris Saint-Germain, who have had a rather shaky relationship with FC Barcelona over recent years.

The transfer of Neymar Jr. in 2017 could be attributed to having been one of the many reasons for this general animosity, but it appears that it continues to linger even today. Despite that, the French club’s president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, has suggested that a particular Barcelona player was at one point a great attraction for PSG.

Praise for the Barcelona ace

In a recent interview with Polish outlet Meczyki, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, the PSG president laid forth plenty of praise towards Barcelona ace and Polish National team striker Robert Lewandowski, claiming him to have been an “incredible forward”:

I have a policy of not talking about players who are not in PSG and about transfers that will occur or were supposed to occur. But it’s no secret that Robert is an incredible forward.”

Interest in Lewandowski

He further elaborated that, given Lewandowski’s exceptional abilities, it was true that several top European sides, possibly including PSG, were attentive to his situation with former club Bayern Munich and potentially even thought of acquiring him entirely:

“All the clubs in the world looked at him and at some point thought about signing him.”

Respecting his decision

However, he did state that he respects the player’s decision to join Barcelona and he acknowledges that he remains an asset for the Catalan club. He also said that he could only speak highly of the Polish international as they had a pleasant encounter with one another:

“But Robert is now in Barcelona, and I respect that. There weren’t many snipers who could score goals in almost every match. He is a goal-scoring machine and a great guy. We met, and I can only speak very highly of him.”

Despite the good-natured words of Khelaifi towards Barca’s talisman, it remains true that the Catalan giants are at odds with the PSG president over the entire concept of a European Super League, which the latter remains strictly against.
