FC Barcelona continue to prioritize bringing in top-quality reinforcements to better enable their team to compete across all competitions next season.

However, some hurdles continue to persist and become a nuisance for the Catalan club to achieve their objectives. As they target a particular set of players, a new interested party makes its way in to complicate matters.

As per SPORT, French club Paris Saint Germain are currently hot on the tails of Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva, who just so happens to be on the radar of FC Barcelona as well, and is considered to be PSG’s version of a replacement for the departing Lionel Messi.

Currently contracted to English Premier League side Manchester City until 2025, the Portuguese midfielder is arguably one of the very best in his position at the moment.

PSG sporting director Luis Campos is speculated to be the one figure hellbent on bringing the Manchester City star to Paris. Despite the impending signing of Marco Asensio, PSG still believe that they would rather keep the Spaniard as a backup player to Silva if they manage to bring the latter in.

Barcelona themselves have long been interested in the 28-year-old and Xavi Hernandez in particular considers him to be an ideal fit in his image of the Catalan club. However, the priority for FC Barcelona remains club legend Lionel Messi, with Silva as more of a Plan B.

However, despite the obvious interest from Barcelona, signing the player himself is a complicated ordeal. Manchester City are understandably stubborn about letting go of such a key player, and moreover, should they decide to let him go they would accordingly demand a substantially high transfer fee for his services.

The latter is something PSG can offer, but Barcelona simply cannot as of now given their complications and restrictions due to their economic struggles with Financial fair play.
