FC Barcelona seem to have become accustomed to some new revelations concerning their transfer operations every now and then with some unveiled twist in the tale.
The entire transfer saga concerning Barcelona star and France National team winger Ousmane Dembele and his ongoing negotiations with French club Paris Saint-Germain have now lingered on for an inconvenient amount of time.
Originally expected to go to the Parisian club for €50 million, the amount that PSG would have paid as his active release clause prior to the beginning of August, out of which Barcelona would have only received €25 million, exactly 50% of the entire release clause.
Then, as August arrived, multiple sources confirmed the release clause had increased to double the previous amount, and now remained intact at €100 million should any club wish to take the Frenchman away from FC Barcelona. Out of this amount, it was speculated Dembele and his representative would take away 25%.
Now, there seems to be an even newer revelation concerning this particular transfer saga. As per the ever-reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have received a formal letter from the French side Paris Saint-Germain which has consequently triggered a ‘private’ clause to take away the 26-year-old Dembele.
According to this clause, as per the information provided by Romano, PSG will be acquiring the French star for a value of exactly €50 million, rather than the possibility of further negotiations as recent speculations suggested.
As a result, the player will now have his new deal completed by the end of this week according to Fabrizio Romano, and the final payout will be the previously mentioned €50 million, rather than his otherwise active €100 million release clause.
The news comes as a massive blow to FC Barcelona who despite having accepted the sporting toll this departure would take, knew that should they receive the €100 million amount from the release clause it would have been a huge economic benefit.
Now, the club must proceed knowing that the final amount has only come up to the value of the previously active release clause prior to August, that being €50 million, a sum that is hardly going to justify the investments Barcelona themselves have allocated towards Dembele over the last six seasons.
