Barcelona forward Raphinha

Raphinha talks about Dembele, Xavi, Gavi, and playing on the left wing

Raphinha spoke about his personal objective for the season, taking penalties, Playing on the left wing, his competition with Dembele, winning La Liga, being surprised by the qualities of Gavi, and the dressing room environment in his recent interview with Catalunya Ràdio.

Raphinha on his personal objectives for the season:

“I am never satisfied. At the beginning of the season, I set a target of 10 goals and 10 assists. And if I get there, I go up to 5 more goals and 5 more assists. Now I’m close to my first target, but with 8 goals and 9 assists, so I’m still not satisfied.”

Raphinha on winning La Liga:

“I try not to think that La Liga is done. Things in football can go wrong and if they go wrong we have to have the head to think that there are more games and we depend on ourselves. We are focused on the remaining games.”

Raphinha on who has surprised him the most:

“Because of his size, age, and quality, Gavi, because of his attitude on the field, because he is so small but doesn’t care who he faces, I am amazed. Many of the players have surprised me, they have a lot of quality.”

Raphinha on Dembele:

“Ousmane is one of the players I get on best with in the dressing room. Competition is normal. One has to play and another doesn’t, but when it’s fair, you don’t have to have enmity in the dressing room. I like the way he plays and as a person.”

Raphinha on the dressing room environment:

“There is a lot of enthusiasm in the locker room, the last games have not gone so well, but we are having a great season.”

Raphinha on playing as a left winger:

“Before arriving at Barcelona, I hadn’t played as a left winger for 5 years. I adapted on the right, I like to play there. Although I spoke to Xavi, and I told him that if I play on the left I will try to help the team, even if I play as a goalkeeper.”

Raphinha on taking the penalties:

“Of course, I like to take penalties and I’ve been taking them since I played for Vitoria. It’s the coach who says who takes the penalties. There is a list and I was second against Valencia, but Ferran was first. And the only one who misses is the one who shoots.”

Raphinha on the excitement of winning the league:

“If there are people who aren’t excited about the league, then they shouldn’t be here. We know that we must improve a lot, but we have won difficult matches, which wasn’t easy.”

Raphinha on the match against Valencia:

Against Valencia, we played badly one half and well the other. We know that, but the important thing is that we got the win.”
