Barcelona proceed to scavenge the transfer market for promising opportunities to exploit. While financial frailties have proven to be a significant roadblock thus far, there is still ample time to turn the situation around.
The need for a right-back has been well documented. Although Barcelona are willing to field Jules Kounde on the right flank as a last resort, they have not abandoned their quest for a more naturally suited right-back.
As such, Ivan Fresneda is a player that has been linked considerably with the Catalan giants. Previously there were reports that Barcelona were struggling to muster up an offer for the youngster, but according to Gerard Romero, Fresneda and his agents are discussing Barcelona’s proposal with Real Valladolid.
With an offer already sent, it appears that the Blaugranes value Fresneda more than Joao Cancelo, given there were reports of a dilemma in the Barcelona headquarters regarding Cancelo and Fresneda.
The offer at hand, however, poses some doubts. The figure is reportedly close to €10M, which does not comply with Valladolid’s demands. But with the additional possibility of including Estanis Pedrola in the operation, Barcelona are prepared to cut corners for the deal to become a reality.
Pedrola is one of the subsidiary’s bright young players, yet was recently recommended to find minutes elsewhere through a loan spell. With competition in the squad already peaking and Fresneda’s profile an immediate priority, Pedrola may prove to be the sacrificial lamb to fulfill this deal.
In the event Fresneda joins, Barcelona would boost competition in the right-back department as well. If Ousmane Dembélé’s departure materializes, greater funds may be allocated to the operation.
