FC Barcelona are now entering the final stretch of the summer transfer window and they already have the concluded list of players that they still wish to bring in to the Catalan club, as well as beginning to discard those that are now considered beyond the club’s ability to acquire.
The Catalan giants are particularly interested in bringing aboard a quality right-back to reinforce a position that for several years has been left unattended and uncared for, with the initial hope having been to bring in two new recruits for the position but that reality now seems slim.
The priority target remains Manchester City fullback Joao Cancelo, whom Barcelona are believed to have already agreed personal terms with and are soon to agree contractual terms with Manchester City as well to bring the 29-year-old to Spain on a one-year loan with an option to buy.
However, Barcelona had also previously wished to simultaneously bring in 18-year-old Real Valladolid fullback Ivan Fresneda, but it appears that his arrival is now unfeasible due to limited Financial fair play and Barcelona thus choosing to prioritize Cancelo’s arrival instead.
Now, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, it appears that Portuguese outfit Sporting CP from Lisbon has already agreed terms with Real Valladolid for the 18-year-old for a fee less than the previously demanded €15 million alongside the loan of either Fatawu or Rodrigo Ribeiro.
Barcelona themselves had made a bid for the player that ultimately got rejected but it seems that with Sporting CP an agreement has indeed been found.
However, unlike the case of Barcelona, Sporting CP are yet to agree to terms on a personal level with Ivan Fresneda and convince the player to join them, which was the easier part on the other hand for FC Barcelona when they were involved in the operation.
