The next few days in the transfer market could shape up the rest of the season for FC Barcelona. They have made an impressive start to the Hansi Flick era but would know they cannot rest on their laurels and need to keep pushing.
Exits continue to be the need of the hour with quite a few players leaving the club in recent days. Ilkay Gundogan is back with Manchester City, Clement Lenglet has left on loan to Atletico Madrid and so have Vitor Roque and Mikayil Faye.
Despite having not yet registered Dani Olmo for La Liga, the club continues to be linked with new arrivals in this last week of the transfer window. As per MARCA, Barcelona are unlikely to sign Juventus outcast Federico Chiesa this summer due to FFP.
The report explains that with the club still unable to register Olmo for the league, they do not have the room to afford the wages of Chiesa. The Italian winger despite being available on a bargain transfer fee would command a decent salary.
The €35m-rated is out of the project under Thiago Motta at Turin and Juventus are keen on selling the Italian. Once tipped for Serie A legacy, the 26-year-old’s career hasn’t hit the heights once expected of him.
One more reason the report mentions why Barcelona might not need to sign Chiesa is the number of options they have on the wing. Raphinha, Ferran Torres, and Ansu Fati can all play in that position although the former is being used as a midfielder by Hansi Flick.
Dani Olmo and Pau Victor can also play from the left meaning there is no pressing need for Barcelona to sign a new left winger. Torres had a good game against Athletic Bilbao and should continue there until Fati returns from injury.
All things considered, missing out on Chiesa might not hurt Barcelona much. Signing him would give us more weapons in the arsenal although as they say, ‘too many cooks spoil the broth’. Let’s see what Deco & co. think about this situation.
