FC Barcelona and Brazil have a storied history with each other. The South American nation has seen some of its greatest-ever products find their way to Catalonia. It is then in Spain and specifically in Barcelona where they manage to gain global recognition.
Neymar Jr, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, and Ronaldo are only some of the global superstars that have donned the Blaugrana colors. Moreover, it seems that this particular trend of Brazilian superstars arriving at Barça is not likely to end any time soon.
Barcelona already have the green light and confirmation of yet another prodigious Brazilian talent’s arrival. Vitor Roque, aged 18, is among the country’s finest players. Primarily a striker, his goal-scoring qualities and exceptional skill have not gone unnoticed even by former icons of the game.
A former Barcelona hero and Brazilian icon, Romario, is among his many fans. Currently a senator for Rio de Janeiro, SPORT highlights his words of praise for Roque. In a recent interview, he even acknowledged Roque as being the most complete striker in Brazil at the moment.
For the former Barcelona player, Roque is a greater talent and is ahead of future rival Endrick. The latter is set to arrive at Real Madrid soon while Roque himself is a future Barcelona player, and this statement from Romario will undoubtedly add even more fuel to a potential rivalry.
He went on to state that the player still should not be put under any unnecessary pressure. Comparisons to the greats of yesterday will do him no good, claimed Romario: “I believe comparisons between today’s forwards and Ronaldo and me shouldn’t be made.”
Continuing on about the idea of both Endrick and Roque at Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively, Romario claimed that their special talents undoubtedly have the capability of making that big jump:
“Both have the ability and conditions to make that transition.”
He then went on to state that both will be crucial for the Brazilian National team in the near future as well:
“Both are there, and I’m sure they can become great idols and make a difference. If you ask me what I imagine for the next World Cup, I imagine both will be with the Brazilian national team.”
For now, Roque trains with Athletico Paranaense and works towards making his return. Having recently recovered from his injury, his return is great news for La Blaugrana. With the winter transfer window fast approaching, Barça continue to study ways of accelerating his arrival.
