FC Barcelona are currently facing challenges in finding a new defensive midfielder to strengthen their team for the upcoming 2023/2024 season. Following the departure of club legend Sergio Busquets, it becomes massively important to find an alternative soon.
Yet, most targets that they had chosen to pursue, which included the likes of Bayern Munich’s German engine Joshua Kimmich and Real Sociedad’s Spanish maestro Martin Zubimendi, ended up becoming unfeasible options for La Blaugrana and thus Barcelona were exempted from even dreaming of attaining their services.
Now if recent updates are to be believed coming in from Italy, FC Barcelona could be set to lose yet another one of their stronger candidates to bring in due to being financially outmuscled yet again in this summer transfer window.
As per Italian outlet ‘CalcioMercato’, Barcelona target and current Fiorentina midfielder, Sofyan Amrabat could be potentially lured away by newfound interest all the way from the Middle East.
The 26-year-old midfielder continues to be one of the most sought out talents in Europe, with sides such as Manchester United and Atletico Madrid alongside FC Barcelona also dreaming of bringing the player over to their respective clubs.
Having impressed at the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar, the Moroccan international has since become a much more acclaimed name within Europe than he ever was before. Now, he remains contracted to his Serie A club until 2024, but it is heavily believed that this summer the player will move to new grounds to pursue a different chapter in his career.
Barcelona must be wary of this interest from Saudi Arabia in particular, as the country’s clubs have already managed to take away some of the absolute biggest names in Europe simply through their significant monetary offers, something they will undoubtedly try to pull off with Amrabat and Fiorentina as well.
