Eternity is not guaranteed at FC Barcelona, even to their most notable heroes. The years have taught us that much, and those rules of time continue to exile players even today. Especially when a Barcelona star can no longer deliver their best, their place at the club becomes replaceable.
One player who has had a lot of criticism launched towards him in recent seasons has been Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. Even unjustifiably so at some times, he has been heralded as one of the major changes that Barcelona must make to revolutionize the team. Fortunately for those who believe that, a saving grace may arrive from Saudi Arabia.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad may be quite interested in the services of the 32-year-old Barcelona veteran. While this interest has been hinted at before, despite the opposite being said from within Ter Stegen’s camp, it appears that the interest is now quite solidified.
MD goes as far as to say their sources have confirmed this information, and the Saudi Arabian club will look to make a move for the Barcelona goalkeeper in the upcoming summer transfer window. The same club where the likes of Karim Benzema, N’golo Kante, and Fabinho are currently playing, wants to add the Barcelona goalkeeper to their collection of stars.
However, it is precisely because of the Middle Eastern club’s inability to deliver the season they would have ideally liked that they consider needing more elite signings. For now, Ter Stegen and his entourage are adamant about staying at Barcelona.
The Saudi club, on the other hand, understands that the operation may be a complicated one. Despite that, their interest is considered a guarantee and they will do whatever is in their power to sway the German international away from FC Barcelona and into their outstretched arms.
Given that Ter Stegen signed an extension last August with Barça, one that keeps him at the club until 2028, it may be safe to assume that the Catalan giants would want a significant fee if they were to even consider letting go of one of their captains and star players. However, with the economic muscle that the Saudi Arabian clubs have, nothing can be considered too far-fetched.
