Barcelona target Joao Cancelo

Saudi Arabian offer arrives for Barcelona-linked Man City star – report

The various objectives at FC Barcelona in terms of summer recruitments are still far from being achieved, given that the Catalan club continues to sort out their finances while also assessing the best sporting options.

The recent unexpected departure of French winger Ousmane Dembele has rekindled the desire of Barcelona to reinvest in a right-back to reinforce a position where the Catalans lack a reliable specialist.

As a consequence, La Blaugrana drew up a possible list of options to pursue and the two names with the most prominence remain Manchester City fullback Joao Cancelo and Real Valladolid youngster Ivan Fresneda, with the former being considered the absolute priority within the Barcelona camp.

However, according to Spanish outlet Diario AS, Cancelo remains a target who has no shortage of offers to his name already. Moreover, he has also recently added a Saudi Arabian offer to that list worth a lucrative amount.

Xavi Hernandez believes Cancelo’s abilities to be supreme and that he would be an elite acquisition for Barcelona should they manage to complete his operation.

On the contrary, it is almost certain that the offer from Saudi Arabia, something that the sources from Manchester City confirm has intrigued the player and he continues to hold talks, holds a much more viable economic appeal.

Barcelona are yet to formally even submit a bid for the 29-year-old, as confirmed by Manchester City’s sources, but the player’s agent Jorge Mendes continues to look for potential suitors for his client who already completed a loan away to Bayern Munich last season due to being out-of-favour at Manchester City.

In light of these offers beginning to pile up for the Portuguese right-back, Barcelona will need to advance their operation if they are indeed to secure a signing that they have already agreed personal terms with, according to Fabrizio Romano.
