Opportunity always finds those at FC Barcelona that most deserve it, but it only comes sparingly. Not every day does a youth talent get the chance to feature for the first team. However, when they finally do get the chance to grab such an opportunity, they tend to use both hands.
One of the names that seem to be on the right trajectory to impress Xavi currently plays under Rafa Marquez. A star within Barcelona Atletic already, this particular 19-year-old has been turning heads down in the subsidiary.
The player in question is none other than Senegalese talent Mikayil Faye. Having arrived from the Croatian second division during the summer, SPORT and Rafa Marquez consider him to be the next revelation. His performances have been getting considerably more noteworthy as time passes.
Against Teruel, he shined quite brightly for Barça Atletic. While the subsidiary embodies the Barcelona philosophy and attempted to control the game, their opposition attempted to foil their game plan by simply sticking to their counter-attacking system.
Alas, whenever a counterattack would be initiated, Barça Atletic would initially look to be in trouble. However, that is exactly where Mikayil Faye thrives. Monstrous physicality, explosiveness, and undeniable pace, the 19-year-old consumes the attacking opponents and stops them in their tracks.
While his defensive partner, Pau Cubarsi, is certainly a great defender in his own right, his attributes are distinctly different from Faye’s. To better describe his way of playing, Rafa Marquez had the following to say:
“They are two players who understand each other very well, both defensively and offensively. Both have good ball distribution, maybe Mika is more forceful, especially due to his physicality. ‘Cuba’ is more methodical, and smarter in personal duels.”
With Jules Kounde now among those injured within the first team, the doors may just open for the young player. Expected to be out until November at the very least, the Frenchman’s absence could allow Faye to thrive at Barcelona.
