FC Barcelona has constantly been hit with financial problems over the course of the last few years. Beyond just the financial regulations and restrictions that limit their spending, the Catalan club has also had other issues to resolve. However, it seems that Barcelona still has some pending payments to think about.
One of those payments could be associated with former Argentine striker Sergio Aguero. The former Manchester City icon arrived as a free agent in 2021 and was only able to feature in four games for Barcelona before some unfortunate heart-related problems had to force the player into retirement.
Now, several years later, it is being reported by Mundo Deportivo that the 36-year-old former Argentine star is claiming that Barcelona still owe him €3 million following the termination of his original contract with the club as a form of compensation.
MD further reports that while a conciliation meeting took place in June of this year, the matter is still awaiting a formal judicial court process, but no specific court has yet admitted the claim. However, the demand itself seems a bit unorthodox given how little Aguero featured for the club.
In other news, Barcelona just recently managed to get a favorable outcome in their legal battle against former player Matheus Fernandes. Ultimately, the due amount that they have to pay to the Brazilian player is significantly lower than what the player had originally demanded from them.
However, given the tight margins by which Barça is working through its financial situation at the moment, any additional payment could end up having a significant impact on the club’s financial stability. For that reason, every single case must be addressed with the utmost focus and proper legal actions must be taken in each scenario.
