The ongoing 2023/24 season has undoubtedly been a rough one for FC Barcelona. La Blaugrana continues to struggle on the field, and in more ways than just their performances. Beyond just their lackluster displays, Barcelona are also struggling to get wins at a consistent rate.
Xavi’s side has not recaptured their momentum from last season, and it is becoming problematic for Barcelona. However, it seems that their problems do not stop just there. Already harboring various financial problems, a new discouraging update also arrives in the form of transfer valuations.
According to AS, several Barcelona players have seen their values plummet in the latest Transfermarkt update. A site specializing in player valuations and market transfers, the valuations that it assigns are more or less accurate to real-time valuations.
Overall, many key Barcelona players have seen a decrease in their transfer values. Pedri, the current most highly valued player in the team, sees his previous €100 million valuation decrease by €10 million, and it now stands at €90 million.
Frenkie De Jong, another key player, sees his value drop from €90 million to €80 million. Now valued at €50 million, Raphinha becomes another victim of the latest update. Similarly, both Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo are now being valued at €40 million each, after having seen their values decline.
Polish ace Robert Lewandowski, mainly due to his age and disappointing performances, also saw a decrease in his value. Now valued at exactly €20 million, Lewandowski sees his value drop from €30 million. This devaluation of players in totality sees the overall transfer value of Barcelona fall from €862 million to €818 million.
This devaluation will certainly sting this already struggling Barcelona side. Poor performances on both an individual and collective level continue to haunt the club, and this is just one example of it. Xavi truly needs his team to turn the situation around, and do it as quickly as possible.
