It would seem that there is still a lot of confusion within FC Barcelona about their future. The Catalan club remains in a complicated situation when it comes to many things, but certain issues are more of a priority. One such issue for Barcelona is undoubtedly their managerial crisis.
As unveiled by Xavi Hernandez himself, the current head coach of Barcelona is set to part ways with the club at the end of the season. For him, the pressure and expectations have become too much and it seems that Xavi no longer wishes to continue. Thus, the club needs to find a capable alternative.
In light of this, many names have popped up as possible replacements. Now, according to AS, there is a new name also spiraling around who has past experience at Barcelona. That name is none other than Jordi Cruyff, the 49-year-old son of Dutch icon Johan Cruyff.
The report highlights how the 49-year-old’s great desire remains to coach Barcelona. Moreover, it also highlights how he has the experience to back it up, unlike Xavi who came directly from Qatar. Cruyff has previously coached Maccabi Tel Aviv, Chongqing Dangdai Lifan, Shenzhen, and even the Ecuador National team.
Formerly a Barcelona player himself, Cruyff also served as the team’s Sporting Director previously. However, he departed not too long after news broke about Deco taking over and Mateu Alemany departing. Yet, AS does mention that there is some reason to believe that Cruyff may end up not managing the club.
While he does hope to do so with Barcelona, he also remains great friends with Xavi. It would be unlikely to see him taking over from his own friend, and it seems that he is more than willing to take up any coaching opportunity that presents itself.
His father, Johan Cruyff, was himself a Barcelona icon both as a player and manager. He evolved the club and helped it transcend beyond its previous levels, as he guided them to their first ever UEFA Champions League title. Perhaps Jordi Cruyff hopes to follow in the footsteps of his father, but that appointment does seem unlikely as of right now.
