FC Barcelona had a rather successful January transfer window, even if they did not make a single signing. The club managed to renew the contracts of many of the important cogs of Hansi Flick’s team and also earned a sweet profit thanks to Manchester City signing Nico Gonzalez.
The Catalan club had the opportunity to sell a few of their players right until deadline day but Hansi Flick seemed intent on keeping whoever he had at his disposal and one would have to assume that they would not have accepted offers for anyone other than Ansu Fati.
Now, as per Fichajes, Barcelona rejected offers from four different European clubs AC Milan, Napoli, Borussia Dortmund, and Arsenal for talented Spanish attacker Ferran Torres with the player being considered valuable by Hansi Flick.
Ferran has been an underrated cult hero for Flick’s Barcelona so far this season. He is not a starter for the team but he plays an important role coming off the bench, more often than not coming on for Robert Lewandowski and scoring important goals leading the line.
The game against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League was one that Barcelona managed to win only thanks to Ferran Torres and he even got the all-important assist for Raphinha’s goal in Barcelona’s incredible 5-4 win over Benfica in the same competition.
The report mentions that Napoli saw Torres as a direct replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who left for PSG while AC Milan tried to sign him after shipping Alvaro Morata out. Dortmund had seen first hand the massacre that the Spaniard causes and Arsenal have been crying out for a striker for some time now.
However, it is absolutely the right decision that Barcelona chose to keep hold of Ferran Torres. Players like the Spaniard are hard to come by and there is a reason why he has been valued by coaches like Pep Guardiola, Luis Enrique, Xavi Hernandez, Luis de la Fuente, and now Flick.
The sooner Barcelona fans start appreciating Ferran for what he is rather than judging him for what he is not, the better it will be in the long run. Ultimately, the 24-year-old is here to stay, and let’s wait and see how his career plays out going forward.
