It is always a realistic goal for FC Barcelona to demand more and expect better with each passing season. Given the historical background and pedigree of the club, that much is to be expected. However, there have been some issues for Barcelona when it comes to transfers in recent seasons.
Due to their well-documented financial limitations, the Catalan club has been unable to spend as they would like in the transfer market. Instead, the club has focused more on free signings or low-cost arrivals, and some of those signings have proven to be great acquisitions as well.
However, very rarely does Barcelona engage in any kind of transfer dealings with a direct rival. That number is then even less when that rival is Real Madrid itself, the biggest competition for La Blaugrana. Yet, out of nowhere, there is now an update that suggests something peculiar that connects both clubs.
According to Fichajes, Barcelona president Joan Laporta explored the possibility of potentially acquiring Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin. The Ukrainian shot-stopper is currently the second-choice goalkeeper at Los Blancos, and Barça reportedly saw this as an opportunity to make an inquiry.
To do that, the club president engaged in conversation with the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes. While they discussed other more important topics as well, such as the future of Lamine Yamal for instance, the report states that the topic of the 26-year-old Real Madrid player was also brought up.
However, it was made clear that the Real Madrid goalkeeper is currently focused on succeeding at the Santiago Bernabeu and he has already signed a renewal until 2030 as well. While he is undeniably a talented player, it also seems unlikely that Barcelona would be too interested in a player owned by Real Madrid.
Fortunately for La Blaugrana, their own star in goal is shining quite brightly. Wojciech Szczesny, Barça’s emergency recruit, has been pivotal to the team’s success lately and his flawless performance against SL Benfica in the team’s most recent game only highlights his quality further. Moreover, he remains more than open to a possible renewal in the future as well.
