Controversies are something that FC Barcelona have become all too familiar with. The Catalan giants are known for drawing attention, irrespective of whether it is a positive or negative one. However, it is not always the Catalan giants that initiate controversies.
Recently, a player from an opposing team mentioned his desire to one day play for FC Barcelona. That player was Aleix Garcia, who just so happens to play for fellow Catalan side Girona FC and is also the captain of the side taking La Liga by storm.
His public statement that he would one day like to play for the Blaugrana outfit has been taken positively by fans of FC Barcelona. “I would like to play for Barça’ because ‘it’s the club I’ve followed and liked since I was little,” expressed the 26-year-old midfielder.
However, as reported by SPORT, one man who has not taken too well to his statement is Girona boss Michel. Prior to their game in the Copa Del Ray, Michel was asked about his captain’s recent statement. The Girona head coach did not soften his words as he commented exactly what he thought of the whole thing:
“For me, Aleix has made a mistake. I hope that, little by little, people will only support Girona. This is my message to our fans. We need players who are 100% committed to Girona.”
Barcelona and Girona remain locked in a tangle for La Liga this season. For now, the latter is dominating La Liga and has already accumulated 38 points. La Blaugrana, on the other hand, are not too far behind with 34 points to their name.
However, their clash against one another is not too far away. On Sunday, Barcelona and Girona will lock horns at the Montjuic Stadium in what is expected to be a grand clash between two very attacking sides. Interestingly, both sides have shared more than just objectives this season.
Three players have moved between Barcelona and Girona in the summer of 2023. While Eric Garcia and Pablo Torre transferred to Girona on loan deals, Barcelona permanently acquired Oriol Romeu from their fellow Catalan club in a deal worth €3.4 million. The state of that transfer and its importance, however, have started to dwindle.
