FC Barcelona have been struggling with their finances for the last few years. Although there have been some improvements in their condition in the last few years, the Catalans have still not returned to the 1-1 rule, and thus face significant problems signing and registering new players.

This problem was clearly on display last summer, as the Blaugranes incorporated Dani Olmo, but had to wait a significant period before getting him registered with La Liga. This registration was possible only because of the injury suffered by Andreas Christensen, and the Spanish midfielder is only registered till January 1st under this setup.

Thus, Barcelona will have to get him registered in the upcoming winter transfer window once again. Their potential deal with Nike would have allowed the Catalans to register him, and any other player, without any problems, but Mundo Deportivo notes that Ter Stegen’s injury would allow the Blaugranes to register Dani Olmo even without this deal.

With his injury, Barcelona can use 80% of his wage space to register new players. They have already decided to replace him with Wojciech Szczesny, but the Polish goalkeeper will have to sign for the club at a very low salary.

The incorporation of the Polish keeper was one of the topics discussed by the club in the board meeting on Thursday. Deco and Flick will now make the final decision on whether to go ahead with Szczesny or to wait till January to get another goalkeeper.

If the Polish veteran agrees to come with a low salary, Barcelona have reportedly offered him €3 million till the end of the year, there would be enough room available in the FFP margin for the Catalans to also get Olmo registered till the end of the season in January. Thus, Ter Stegen’s injury, while definitely worrisome for Barcelona, will also solve some problems for them.
