As the end of the current season nears and the transfer window comes close, the focus of the Barcelona management shifts to the upcoming campaign and what could be done in the summer in order to bolster the squad and provide the coach with a competent roster to have a successful season in 2023/24.
Doing so, the first thing that is to be done is revising the current squad and communicate the club’s decision on whether they count on certain individuals for the future. First, the squad needs to be cleaned to make room for further arrivals as well as to create a financial margin within the fair play rules for the incoming transfers.
Thus, a cleaning operation has to start, similar to what happened last summer when 16 players had to leave as Xavi made it clear that they are not in his plans for the future. The Catalan master will tell his similarly sincere opinion on whether one should find a way out of the Catalan capital.
As the league is already won, the fringe players, who would normally have less game time, are expected to play more as there is no relevance in the upcoming games for the Blaugrana, except helping Lewandowski and Ter Stegen to achieve individual awards. However, these final matches won’t affect the future of those players according to a report from SPORT.
The Terrassa-born manager expressed at a press conference last Friday that the remaining few matches won’t change the situation of any player. “Everything is quite decided. If it’s not 99%, it’s 100%. These four games will not determine the future of any player.” said the Barcelona coach.
Especially, there are two names that had a rather underwhelming season, who did not manage to convince Xavi. These two are Ferrán Torres and Ansu Fati, the young Spanish forward duo of Barcelona. Whether to give them a vote of confidence or to tell them to find a way out, the situation can no longer change, as Xavi has made it very clear.
As it’s already known, Ansu Fati’s future most probably lies away from Camp Nou, with the club ready to sell the still-only 20-year-old youngster for a good amount and raise funds for further transfers. As reported, his agent, Jorge Mendes is in favor of a transfer, while the player, on his part, wants to continue and keep trying.
Ferrán Torres’ story is a bit different. The 23-year-old had his moments this season, but the overall performance has been quite inconsistent and unsatisfactory, leaving a lot to be desired. Though, the player has a good image in the Premier League, and he has several potential suitors from England.
We will see in the coming weeks what Xavi’s message is for him, but as mentioned, the decision is already taken and won’t change.
