Foreign operations are often beneficial to FC Barcelona if they are connected to the club. Whether it be an indirect benefit such as a change of targets, or a direct monetary benefit, there are definitely some positives. However, some operations are much more significant than others for Barcelona.

Such is the case of the transfer of Jean-Claire Todibo, who is currently a defender for French club OGC Nice following his departure from Barcelona back in 2021. When Barça initially sold the defender for €8.5 million, alongside another €7 million in variables, they also included a 20% sell-on clause.

Since that point, Todibo’s great performances have resulted in his valuation drastically increasing. Thanks to this increase, the player will now end up being sold for a much larger fee than before and this would ultimately benefit Barcelona directly as well due to the sell-on clause.

At the moment, both Juventus and West Ham United are the clubs focused on making the former Barcelona defender a reinforcement for their team. However, new Juventus coach Thiago Motta, a former youth academy talent and player for Barcelona himself, could help the Catalan giants out.

According to SPORT, Juventus are currently trying to lower the price that Nice is demanding for Todibo’s services. In fact, the Italian club is trying to decrease the final value of the transfer fee all the way down to €25 million, whereas the French club is stern about their demands.

They would reportedly only accept offers valued at €35 million or above. In that sense, Barcelona would be guaranteed at least €7 million if the player was to be sold at the valuation that Nice has put into place for him. However, Motta could aid Barça in this transfer operation by simply giving in.

The player himself seems to prefer the Juventus option more than the West Ham one, despite the English side already having agreed monetary terms with his current club. At a personal level, however, the French defender seems more inclined to join the Serie A.

Ultimately, if Todibo is sold for €35 million or above, that would be the ideal scenario for both Nice and Barcelona. However, it appears that Juventus would need some time before they can muster the financial strength to do that given their own economic limitations.
